Howell Ice Arena offers a variety of skating programs, suitable to every need.
All coaches are United States Figure Skating registered coaches. Our Learn to Skate program has been developed by the Learn to Skate USA program and is endorsed by US Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speedskating. It is designed to provide the students with the skills appropriate for their age level in a positive and fun environment. Our LTS program consists of a comprehensive lesson and testing structure that is very rewarding, safe and fun.
For the 4 to 6 year olds we offer a 4 level Tot program (called Snowplow Sam) and Hockey 1 -4 to prepare them for our regular classes. These are the basic beginner skills for first-timers. For the school age child, we offer levels ranging from Basic 1 (no experience necessary) through Basic 6 and we offer Pre free skate and Freestyle classes for the advanced skater. For the special learner we offer Special Needs classes and individual lessons with a school psychologist/skating coach. Classes are also available for Parent and Tot, and for Adult learners.
The Learn to Skate USA Program is designed to develop skills that the student needs to move on to our advanced figure skating or hockey programs.
Every session one of our designated testers will evaluate the kids to see if the skater is ready to advance to the next level. Once the skater has successfully passed a test, we will immediately move him/her to the next level. No skater is held back in a class that is too easy for them.
